Acupressure is one of many therapeutic modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Many of us are familiar with acupuncture, where thin needles are inserted into specific points to relieve blockages of energy, or “qi” (pronounced “chee”), and acupressure uses these same points.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, by facilitating the free flow of qi, healing happens naturally. Acupressure is used as a complementary modality after a full-body therapeutic sports massage, and determining the element type of your horse helps us design a more comprehensive and effective acupressure treatment for him/her. Specific issues with your horse will be addressed, in addition to overall health and wellness points that are covered in every session. It is the goal of this modality to restore and maintain a balance between the body’s excesses and deficiencies, reestablishing harmony and symmetry within the horse.
Acupressure has consistently been proven to:
- strengthen muscles, tendons, joints, and bones
- enhance mental clarity and calm required for focus
- release natural cortisone to reduce swelling and inflammation
- increase lubrication of the joints for better movement
- release endorphins to increase energy and relieve pain
- resolve injuries more quickly by increasing blood supply
- balance energy to optimize the body’s ability to perform
I have completed certification in Equine Acupoint Energetics and Landmark Anatomy and am presently enrolled in Meridian Theory and Classifications through Tallgrass Animal Acupressure Institute, presenting a systematic approach to locating points using anatomical landmarks and knowing the function and energetics of specific acupoints.
We can also explore your horse’s element type, and how to achieve the best results for his/her wellbeing, health and performance. It’s fun to unravel what makes them tick!
